Communications and Community Relations
Personal Philosophy Statement
Communication is one of the keys to success in the world of education and life. As an administrator this is one of the most important skills you're expected to possess and demonstrate with tremendous diversity. There are so many different audiences and venues you need to reach and also, they need to reach you. Students, staff, families, community members, they are all important and diverse in their own right. What you say and what you write will not be forgotten in many instances, therefore, it is important to think and reflect before you speak or publish your message. Furthermore, as a leader, it is critical that you follow through with your communications.
"The art of communication is the language of leadership."-James Humes
Activity: Speaking and Presenting at School Board Meetings
I've taken the opportunity to speak at quite a few board meetings in the past several years. Whether it's been as a parent, community member, educator or Activities Director, I think its important to speak publicly (on record) in regards to issues when possible. Credibility is so important in regards to policy and procedures. As an Administrator, public speaking is an expectation.

Activity: Presentation to Staff at Fall Building Meeting
I was asked by the building Principal to present a "Fall Wrap-Up" to our staff in regards to fall programming, enrollment, successes and achievements and look at Winter Activities. Although the agenda notation was brief, it was tremendous opportunity to share with our staff the many opportunities our students took part in.
Activity: Continued Development of Middle School Activities Website
This venture began the moment I accepted the role of Middle School Activities Director. Families need (and expect) to reach us online for programming, scheduling, enrollment information and contact information. This has been not only a website effort, but a reorganization of current procedures.

Activity: We Are 181
Although I didn't directly have a role in the following, I understand the importance of getting positive, credible information out to the public in a variety of formats. "We Are 181" is a magazine depicting many aspects and components to our District. It's a collaborative partnership with the local newspaper and can also be seen online. Publications such as this are welcomed addition to any organization. I'd welcome the opportunity to be a part of this in the future as a Middle School Activities Coordinator.
