Program Development & Evaluation

Personal Philosophy Statement

    In the area of program development and evaluation, there are a few essential skills that are a must.  A leader needs to coordinate and collaborate with many individuals in order to put programs into action.  Said leaders have the whole picture in mind and comprehend the steps that need to take place for those in place to be successful and support them along their journey. As programs are being developed it is also extremely important to be reflective and evaluative of the process as it develops.  Leaders need to establish checkpoints and monitor progress until the end goals have been meet. One must expect and allow for setbacks within programs, but not let them be a hindrance to the goals established…Sometimes you need to take the unforeseen path to arrive at the end you had in mind or distinguish along the way.

"Achievement is largely the product of steadily raising one’s levels of aspiration and expectation."-Jack Nicklaus

Activity #1: 2008-2009 High School Registration Handbook Review

  • Assisted in facilitating coordination of registration handbook review
  • Organize committee recommendations
  • Present proposed changes to various groups for implementation/consideration

    I really enjoyed being a part of the 2008-2009 High School Registration Handbook Review Committee.  The committee consisted of a group of several teaching groups and the counselors and at times, included administrators, parents, and educational assistants.  This task required me to set checkpoints throughout the process to be sure that our deadline was met.  In addition, I got to see first hand, how the diversity within our High School setting in regards to credits, options and scheduling is accomplished.

Activity #2: Brainerd Homecoming

    As a member of the planning team for our Homecoming Week, we were responsible for the organizing of an "All Community, Remembering Our Past" social gathering. We needed to coordinate individuals to help put this plan in action.  We worked with a representative from the Chamber of Commerce and connected with community members to assist with the weekends activities. This continues to be an on-going community happening.

Measurement and Evaluation

  1. determine what diagnostic information is needed about students, staff, and the school environment;
  2. examine the extent to which outcomes meet defined standards, goals or priorities;
  3. draw inferences for program revisions;
  4. interpret measurements for evaluations;
  5. relate programs to outcomes;
  6. develop equivalent measurements of competence and design accountability mechanisms.

Activity #1: NWEA Testing

    Our District utilizes the NWEA's as a way to measure student progress and acheivement. Teachers test Reading and Math in Fall and in Spring and are able to have accurate, continued data on students. (Some test in Mid-Year as well.) NWEA's are able to generate results immediately, which, when paired with the MCA's, can provide an accurate snapshot of students.

Activity #2: Viewpoint

    Viewpoint offers staff the ability to instantly view a students test scores in regards to a variety of tests. (NWEA's, MCA's, AimsWeb, etc.) You're able to look at students individually, or a classs, or any breakdown one chooses. It's practicality and ease make it an exceptional tool for educators.
