Professional Development
Personal Philosophy Statement
Professional development is something that is ongoing and reflective in nature. One must be able to identify needs and possess the desire to strive for excellence. A good leader must be able to initiate self-development in those around them, supervise and provide feedback as needed. The opportunity of improvement is necessary for individuals to reflect upon methods, curriculum and practice and furthermore, set or adjust goals as needed. A leader must encourage and motivate people to look reflectively at themselves and provide the needed support and opportunities to do so.
"If opportunity doesn't knock - build a door."-Milton Berle

Activity #2: Pursuit of Educational Administration and Leadership Ed. D.
Being selected to the first Doctorate cohort at St. Cloud State University, was a personal goal. I believe in continuing ones education or learning and modeling such expectations to those colleagues around me. The Doctorate is designed to provide a practical, rigorous and meaningful advanced program of study to enhance skills, knowledge and dispositions to successfully meet the demands associated with the leadership of schools and school systems operating in dynamic political, social, cultural, and economic arenas. I'm privileged to be a part of such an experience and look forward to presenting my dissertation.

Motivation

- plan and encourage participation;
- facilitate teamwork and provide intellectual stimulation and support innovation;
- recognize and reward effective performance;

Activity #1: Peer Coach
As a peer coach, my role is to gather data, provide feedback to teachers according to Components of Professional Practice and assist in the writing of goals and action plans. This is a component of Q-Comp in our Distritct. Many of us have enjoyed the experience, if for nothing else, it allows us the time and opportunity to observe other classrooms and curriculums.

Activity #2: Defending the need for Staff Development dollars
The following was a "Statement of Defense" for Dr. Miller's class at SCSU. We were asked to pick a topic, and in a brief administrative statement, defend it. Statements such as this are an everyday expectation of an administrator, both written and spoken.
